Sands Point

Sands Point lies at the tip of Long Island Sound's Port Washington Peninsula, offering views of the bustling Long Island Sound by day and breathtaking views of New York City by night. Originally owned by famous names including Cornwell, Guggenheim, Sands and Vanderbilt, it remains an exclusive and luxurious community. Median household incomes for the village are in excess of $300,000. The high concentration of prestigious families and opulent architecture has landed many Sands Point homes on the National Register of Historic Places.

Public recreation in Sands Point centers on the Sands Point Preserve, which includes the castle-like Hempstead House, former home of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim. The Preserve hosts a medieval times recreation and fair every September. Fine dining and upscale boutiques are available in the village, and New York City is convenient ferry ride across the Sound to Pelham Bay Park.

The incorporated village provides its own police, fire and public works. Public schools are part of the Port Washington Union Free School District, which includes five elementary, one middle and one senior high school. Well funded by the local community, these schools consistently perform well on state and federal standards.
